OUR COFFEE

Academia del Caffe is proud to serve a very special, connoisseur-class Sicilian artisan espresso called Miscela d'Oro (pronounced Me-shell-ah Door-oh) or "The Golden Blend."

So, why is Philadelphia's leading School of Espresso serving Miscela d'Oro?

First and foremost: it's a question of superb flavor.

Since 1946, Miscela d'Oro has been made in Messina, Sicily by the Urbano family. This island off the tip of Italy's boot has a cuisine history going back literally thousands of years and Sicilians are very exacting about flavor profile: they demand tastes that are complex, layered, blended and very rich.

And you taste this spirit of Sicilian cuisine in every cup of Miscela d'Oro.

This is no acidic, over-roasted espresso! Miscela d'Oro features a well-blended bouquet of notes sometimes described as chocolate mixed with caramel and rich fruity undertones.

This espresso wears a crema crown that is thick and deliciously sweet. Its mouth-feel is velvety and the Miscela d'Oro aftertaste is lasting and very aromatic.

Second: there is factor of rarity and our desire to bring something truly unique to Philadelphia.

Miscela d'Oro is not widely available in the United States, so enjoying an authentic espresso at Academia is a treat not easily found at any local other espresso bar.

Anecdote:

One morning, David Bowie's wife Angela went up to their bedroom and found her husband in bed... with Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger.

Angela had just one question for her husband: "Do you want some coffee?"
